Ray came by and installed the big shot shifter in my ’84 westy tonight, the whole thing took about 20-25 minutes ,next thing you know we were driving around.
It took a little getting used to but nothing crazy. It shifts so smooth and easily now, that at first I needed to be sure of what gear I was choosing. As I was used to making some exaggerated moves to get into reverse or 3rd.
But now it moves easy and without effort. I cant thank you enough Ray. I’ll review again after some real driving.

Wow, what a difference! Install went mostly by intuition, and I managed it in about 1 hour. Had I had everything laid out and didn’t drop things it could have been much less. For instance, dropped a 10mm nut, couldn’t find it, so went in search of a replacement. That alone was 10 minutes. Couple hints, use a 10mm nut driver to finish removing the 10mm nuts from the shifter box. Keeps them together and much easier to restart them after. My shifting setup was probably a little off, I think a tweak or two in the back at tranny may be in order, but the difference is immense already!
Ray was also very helpful on the phone as I had one question regarding the one adjustment it has. These I am sure will all be covered in the upcoming video.

Very simple install even when I misplaced the 4 base plate bolts… The “feel” is incredible so now it’s a pleasure to shift. I had been thinking of adding an extension but hesitated because of the long throw and the sloppy nature of the OEM stick. This places the shift ball at a very nice height yet has a short and precise throw. I was expecting some bugs and adjustment adventures but NOT !! Thanks!

I have one of the first versions of Ray’s shifter and love it. Using Ray’s 5 speed shift kit I cut my rear shift rod to a length that places my shifter where I wanted it. The Subaru trans has a short throw and this shifter makes it that much better. I used an $10 – EMPI 4535 Shifter boot to cover just the ball and socket. I did trim it to fit .
